A Lifetime Warranty Doesn’t Make Jewelry Immortal

A promise to replace your necklace isn’t proof that the necklace can’t wear out.

That sounds obvious until the words “waterproof,” “tarnish-free” and “lifetime” appear together above an Add to Cart button. Put enough permanence into a product description and a perfectly reasonable shopper can come away expecting a piece that will look unchanged indefinitely.

We think jewelry deserves a better sales pitch than immortality.

The warranty and the metal are doing different jobs

A warranty tells you what a business promises to do if something happens. A material specification tells you something about the object itself. Both matter. They don’t become the same thing because they share a product page.

Hey Harper, for example, promotes its stainless-steel, PVD-coated jewelry for showers and beach days alongside a lifetime color warranty. That’s a clear promise about color and support.

D.LOUISE’s lifetime guarantee also covers discoloration and tarnishing. Manufacturing defects, including a stone falling out, sit under a separate one-year warranty. The distinction matters if the part you love is a crystal arrangement, and the problem you encounter has nothing to do with its gold color.

A lifetime color guarantee can be useful. It still requires you to know what “color” is doing in that sentence.

The business has agreed to a remedy. It hasn’t found a way to stop time.

Strong water protection is a feature, not a new law of nature

PVD is a real coating technology with real strengths. Combined with stainless steel, it can provide a hard, resistant surface well suited to repeated water exposure. It’s easy to understand why that appeals to someone tired of taking a chain off.

But jewelry meets more than water. Surfaces rub, components knock against things, settings take strain, and chemicals introduce different conditions. GIA recommends removing even fine jewelry before chlorinated swimming. “Solid gold” doesn’t mean every part of a finished piece welcomes every environment.

None of that makes steel a bad choice. It makes every construction a set of tradeoffs, and a tough coating doesn’t make the design decisions for you.

The business has agreed to a remedy. It hasn’t found a way to stop time.

We want to talk about the piece you actually want

At Oomiay, that conversation includes the finish, the settings and the design.

Our Heavy Gold+ rings start with real 18K gold, 2.5 microns of it, over a silver barrier and sealed on top. The crystals are set by hand. Those choices are behind the warm color and the sparkle you fell for.

We call our plated jewelry water-resistant, and we’d tell you to take it off for the shower, the pool and the gym. That doesn’t make it a piece to save for dinner once a month. It makes it jewelry with a sensible place in your routine.

We’d rather you choose a ring for the whole thing: the shape, the way its crystals sit, the finish, the quality behind it. Being able to keep it on in the shower shouldn’t become the entrance exam for good design.

Our two-year warranty reflects that broader view. It covers a lot more than the color.

Two years is our support commitment. It isn’t an instruction for your ring to stop being a favorite on the following morning.

A favorite can have a future without pretending to last forever

There’s something oddly joyless about shopping for jewelry as if the winning piece is the one you can forget is there.

We want you to notice yours. To like putting it on. To find a ring worth noticing and feel good about the quality behind it.

Buy the piece you love. Know what it’s made of. Know what the brand stands behind. Those are better foundations for a lasting relationship with jewelry than a very large word above a very small set of terms.

Questions about waterproof jewelry and warranties

Does waterproof jewelry wear out?

Anything you wear every day wears in some way. Surfaces rub, settings take knocks and chemicals do their thing. A warranty can replace a piece. It can’t stop time.

Can I shower with Oomiay jewelry on?

We’d take it off. Our plated pieces are water-resistant for everyday splashes, and they look their best longest when they skip the shower, pool and gym.

What does the Oomiay warranty cover?

Our plated jewelry comes with a two-year warranty that covers more than color. Read the details here.
